I THINK I JUST GOT HACKED ON DISCORD BUT *HOPEFULLY* MANAGED TO GET THEM OUT BEFORE ANYTHING WORSE COULD HAPPEN?? 😭😭😭

I was just typing something when first suddenly my theme changed from light to dark/light/dark/light a few times which was already baffling

Next the app language suddenly changed to chinese/korean/chinese/korean (managed to take a screenshot while hurrying into the settings)

and while i was trying to 1) change back to english, 2) get into the right settings tab to log out any other devices and 3) change password to a safer one; some strange text in chinese was sent multiple times into the chat (tried looking it up but didnt find anything) along with some anime girl gif, some kpop boy gif and 2 cat gifs i had marked as favorites

THANKFULLY it was more scare than harm and I'd honestly wish to know what mistake caused this (was it really just a "not secure enough" password or did discord have security issues already or *are* hackers just getting more advanced or could my data be free flying somewhere for anyone to grab or what)

But just in case this'll happen to anybody else, start practicing navigating to these tabs as fast as possible (ESPECIALLY the Devices to log anybody else out asap) and also generally your Account > Password

I'm really not sure how risky Authorized Apps could be (I only had Patreon and "Not Quite Nitro" so idk if that's a risk; removed both) and Connections only had youtube and spotify; also removed those to be safe for now

I still keep going back into the Devices tab to be sure nobody returned, but I'm also figuring they were looking for people with Nitro memberships or connected bank data or anything and since I've got none of those right now, it was pretty useless (i hope so😭)

Either way, PLEASE be safe, maybe change your passwords (I've only heard something about.. aside numbers and letters you should include some symbol/s as well (if the passwords allow it of course but often they're cool with periods or dashes i recon) and it should be at least 10? 12? things long but I'll also go check for that again; my other password didnt have symbols so who knows if it was that or not) and maybe share to possibly save someone 🙏

Y’all, the Archive admins are made up of VOLUNTEERS. And they have been working for 12-13 HOURS STRAIGHT.

I better not hear any complaints when donation period comes around. OR ELSE.

EDIT: How do we show appreciation to the volunteers? For me reading these deep dives on OTW issues u guys apparently it's been said multiple times that one of their objective statements is to have paid staff for ao3 and there's a surplus of donations they haven't used up or the other community solutions that needs to address. For those more financially literate feel free to analyze, snipe me or add to the discussion etc. linked here by deepa. They’re cool and these yearly analysis they did aint no joke.

But Seriously what can we do for these volunteers? The probable burn out from this entire fiasco would be no joke. @ao3org

AO3 is currently under a DDoS attack (Distributed Denial-of-Service attack: a group of hackers is trying to overwhelm the website with superfluous commands, taking it down temporarily or even indefinitely - it's akin to a group of people blocking the doorway to a shop and stopping legitimate customers from entering). The voluntary techs at AO3 are working hard to resolve the problem. So, don't panic, AO3 is here to stay. There is nothing you currently need to do on your end but be patient with them. I hope this helps!

Chapter 15 - Froissement is up on A03

Summary:

The Diamond had descended into chaos, terrified spectators rushed toward the exits fleeing for there lives. Caterina could only watch on in horror, the explosion had sent the mezzanine above crashing down onto the competitor booths below. Spite, Viago, & Illario desperately dig through debris, hoping to save their friends.

Caterina's eyes widened in horror, the explosion still ringing in her ears, spectators were screaming, rushing for the fire exits in panic, the staff trying to assist were pushed aside as the crowd moved like a cornered animal, pressing through the doors in a rush to get outside and away from danger.

The mezzanine over the competitor Booths had exploded, crashing down to the floor below. The booth Altara and Lucanis had been sitting in was buried under a pile of rubble. She let out an anguished scream, her throat raw as she fell to her knees in despair. "LUCANIS!" a man screamed, rushing past her down the steps, nearly stumbling in there haste.

Illario threw himself at the rubble, shoving chunks of concrete aside, his muscles straining as he pulled at it, trying to dig his way to his Cousin, his eyes wet with tears, a look of desperation on his face.

She could only stare in mute horror, her heart breaking as Viago rushed down the steps to join him, another man she did not recognise joined seconds later, calling out to Lucanis and Altara as they dug with their bare hands, heaving blocks of concrete and wood to the side desperately trying to reach them.

A touch on her shoulder shook her from her stupor, Teia offered what she hoped was reassuring look. "Don't lose hope, they could still be alive." Caterina let's out a bitter laugh, what hope could there be, there was no way they could have survived that, survived this.

They both watched as emergency paramedics and fire crews rushed down the steps towards the chaos. most of the spectators had fled and the hall fell eerily quite, only sounds of pain from the injured and the people working to free them from the rubble.

Teia's hand never left Catarina's shoulder, offering what little comfort she could. The Matriarch clung to her hand with a death grip, her face twisted in grief as she watched them digging.

Illario's hands were bloody as he pulled another block of concrete out of the way. Viago assisted him, his lips set in a grim line as they tossed another piece to the side.

"Lucanis!! Altara!!" Spite cried out desperately trying to get to them, they had to be alive, not after all they had been through, it couldn't end like this.
